Bc. Aleš Karmazin, M.Sc. received his MSc(Econ) in International Relations from the Aberystwyth University and MSc in China in Comparative Perspective from the London School of Economics, where he was awarded the Fei Xiaotong Prize for the best MSc dissertation in the respective programme. He previously worked as research assistant at the Institute of International Relations, Prague and associate editor of Global Politics journal. His research interests include domestic and foreign policy of China and India, international relations in East Asia, the English School of IR, and concept of the state and sovereignty in IR. His PhD thesis focuses on China and India and organization of their statehoods in the connection to extraterritorial violence and international society.

PhDr. Michal Smetana

European Security

Michal Smetana is a Research Fellow at the Center for Security Policy. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the Charles University in Prague and Goethe University Frankfurt, writing his dissertation on the social construction of normative deviance in the nuclear nonproliferation regime. Moreover, he has been participating on the research projects of the Institute of International Relations Prague and Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), and he is one of the main organizers of annual Prague Agenda conference. Since 2011, he has been teaching several master-level courses with focus on international security at the Charles University’s Department of International Relations. He published several articles in peer-reviewed academic journals, most recently a co-authored article in the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists (with O. Ditrych). His new book co-edited with Nik Hynek titled Global Nuclear Disarmament: Strategic, Political, and Regional Perspectives will be published by Routledge in January 2016.
